Angola’s First Lady Highlights African Women’s Resilience to Climate Change

Libreville: The First Lady of the Republic, Ana Dias Lourenço, reaffirmed on Friday, in the city of Libreville (Gabon), Angola's commitment to actively supporting the campaign 'Building Resilience for Women and Girls: Climate, Conflict and Sustainable Futures'. According to Angola Press News Agency, Ana Dias Lourenço was speaking at the official launch ceremony of the campaign, an initiative of the Organization of African First Ladies for Development (OAFLAD). The First Lady considered it essential to empower communities to resist and adapt to adversity, especially those affected by climate change, allowing all girls the opportunity to build their own future. A press release, to which ANGOP had access, highlighted that the organization's Vice-President reiterated the campaign as a call for collective action. The statement emphasized that no country, institution, or community can tackle these challenges alone, stressing the need to strengthen partnerships, promote regional and international cooperation, and mobilize resources for integrated and sustainable responses. The note also mentioned that the campaign will be launched in Angola to rally public institutions, international partners, and civil society around sustainable and inclusive solutions, focusing on women and girls at the heart of actions. On the occasion, the First Lady shared the impact of climate change that has devastated Angola recently, leaving hundreds of families homeless and records of fatal victims, mostly women and children, as the document concludes.
