Moxico: The Director of the Payment System of the National Reserve Bank of Angola (BNA), Cristina Cani§o, informed on Thursday in the province of Moxico that at least 41 billion kwanzas were transacted from January to November of the current year on the country's ATM network (USD 1 = Kz 912).
According to Angola Press News Agency, these transactions registered a 49.7% growth compared to the same period last year. Cani§o made these remarks during a conference on financing instruments for the economy and alternative payment methods, promoted by the BNA.
Addressing an overview of Angola's payment instruments, she noted that the ATM network continues to lead in the number of financial transactions in the country. November saw a record volume, reaching a peak of 13.3 million transactions in a single day and achieving the highest financial activity with 327 million transactions throughout the month.
Regarding the online Express transaction channel, Cani§o shared that up to November, it processed approximately 1.8 billion transactions. Payments via QR code exceeded 7 million transactions, indicating a growing acceptance of new payment methods.
The official also highlighted the evolution of the payment system in Angola, emphasizing the significant growth of instant transfers via Kwik, a new system that currently boasts more than 23 million users. Despite this progress, she acknowledged that the country still requires greater awareness and education to enhance digital and financial literacy for wider inclusion.
The conference on financing instruments for the economy and alternative payment instruments, which gathered various societal representatives, covered several important topics, including "Instant Payment Services" and "Access to Credit under BNA Notices 10 and 09."
