Luanda: Agriculture in Angola currently supports approximately 3 million families, contributing significantly to the nation’s agricultural production, according to Minister of State for Economic Coordination, José de Lima Massano. Speaking during a session with deputies to the National Assembly, Massano emphasized the government’s plan to enhance support for peasant families, particularly in the south, through water projects aimed at boosting production.

According to Angola Press News Agency, the Minister outlined that the country operates around 100 logistics companies to facilitate the transportation of agricultural products from production areas to markets. Despite this infrastructure, challenges remain, particularly in terms of access to essential inputs and the flow of products to markets. Massano acknowledged that input costs remain high and availability insufficient, but noted improvements in the current agricultural campaign to mitigate these issues.

Training is also a priority, with around 8,500 fi
eld schools established to support agricultural families. The government plans to adjust Gesterra’s mission in 2025, enhancing support and development of production areas. Additionally, a national silo network is being mapped to improve storage and conservation capabilities in high-production regions.

Agriculture and Forestry Minister, Isaac dos Anjos, has called on businesspeople to establish factories for producing agricultural tools, aiming to increase production and improve the livelihoods of peasant families. Meanwhile, Secretary of State for Water, António Balsa da Costa, highlighted the installation of pre-paid meters for water and energy services as part of the 2025-General State Budget.

The Budget proposal includes measures to boost national production, with a projected economic growth of 4.14% and a reduction in VAT on production equipment from 14% to 5%. It also features initiatives to strengthen food security and agricultural mechanization, particularly for family farming.

The proposed Budget e
stimates revenues and expenses at Akz 34.633 trillion (US$37.901 billion), based on an oil price of US$70 per barrel and daily oil production of 1,098,000 barrels, with anticipated inflation reduced to 16.6% by the end of 2024.
