Luanda: President Joo Louren§o returned to Angola on Friday after attending the signing of the peace agreement between the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) and Rwanda in Washington. At 4 de Fevereiro International Airport, the head of state was welcomed by Vice President Esperan§a da Costa and government officials.

According to Angola Press News Agency, the signing of the agreement marked a decisive step toward ending the decades-long conflict that has hindered stability in the Great Lakes region. President Louren§o played a pivotal role in the political and diplomatic mediation between the parties and was present at the event alongside DRC President F©lix Tshisekedi, Rwandan President Paul Kagame, and United States President Donald Trump, who hosted the event.

During his speech at the ceremony, President Louren§o highlighted the importance of the agreement and stressed that it paves the way for peace, cooperation, and regional development. Louren§o appealed to the parties to fully implement the commitments made to achieve a new stage of stability and prosperity for the region's peoples.

Several African countries, including Kenya, Togo, and Burundi, also participated in the process by following the negotiations at different stages. The agreement follows successive failed attempts at peace and therefore constitutes a milestone of hope for lasting stability in the Great Lakes region.
