Angolan President Extends Congratulations to DR Congo on Independence Anniversary

Luanda: President Joo Louren§o congratulated, on Tuesday, his Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) counterpart, F©lix Tshisekedi, on the neighbouring country's 66th independence anniversary, and reiterated Angola's commitment to peace and stability.

According to Angola Press News Agency, in a message addressed to the Congolese Head of State, on behalf of the Angolan Executive and on his own behalf, Joo Louren§o conveyed his warmest congratulations on the occasion. In the letter, the Angolan President recalled that the DR Congo's independence is a benchmark in the African peoples' struggle for freedom and self-determination, and highlighted the role played by the country in defending liberation causes across the continent.

The Head of State also highlighted the DRC's contribution to the achievement of Angola's independence and sovereignty, considering that this shared history consolidated the historic bonds of solidarity between the two peoples. President Joo Louren§o emphasised that Angola and the DRC share a common destiny and an extensive border, and argued that both countries should harness their resource potential to promote the development and well-being of their respective people.

The Angolan statesman further noted that both nations face common challenges related to peace and stability, and therefore called for the reinforcement of coordinated actions aimed at restoring security in the DRC, a condition he deemed essential to boost the development of the sub-region and the African continent.
