Angolan President Commends Burundian Leader on AU Chairmanship

Luanda: The outgoing chairperson of the African Union, Joo Louren§o, congratulated the Head of State of Burundi, Evariste Ndayishimiye, on his election as chairperson of the continental organization. Louren§o expressed his confidence in Ndayishimiye's leadership, emphasizing that his unanimous election is a testament to his capabilities in guiding the African Union with wisdom and responsibility.

According to Angola Press News Agency, Louren§o highlighted the importance of unity among African nations in tackling the pressing challenge of sustainable access to water and safe sanitation systems. He mentioned that during the summit, member states committed to advancing access to drinking water and sanitation, which are crucial for achieving the objectives of Agenda 2063.

The Angolan president underscored the moral and political necessity of securing safe water access, urging governments and partners, including companies, civic associations, and communities, to demonstrate a firm commitment to this cause. He expressed confidence that these collaborative efforts would effectively address one of Africa's most significant issues, impacting sustainable development and improving living conditions.

Louren§o acknowledged the contributions of the African Union Commission, its chairperson, and other collaborators in asserting the continent's dignity and setting a course for tangible progress. He conveyed his belief that all African nations would support Burundi's leadership, aiming to ensure the continuity of programs and fostering unity, solidarity, peace, and stability across the continent.
