Angolan President Awards Independence Medal to Cuban General

Luanda: Angolan president Joo Louren§o honored Cuban General Leopoldo Cintras Fr­as with the Independence medal. A note from the Press Office of the Presidency of the Republic sent to ANGOP states that the award is made under the law that created the commemorative medal to celebrate the 50th anniversary of Angola's independence.

According to Angola Press News Agency, the Angolan Head of State is conducting a medal awarding process to recognize personalities whose actions have contributed significantly to Angola throughout history. For the ceremonies scheduled on Thursday and Friday in Luanda, a total of 698 individuals will be honored. Of these, 253 will be recognized in the Independence Class and 445 in the Peace and Development Class.

General Leopoldo Cintra Fr­as, aged 83, served as the Minister of the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Cuba from 2011 to 2021, marking a significant period of leadership.

He is a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of Cuba and holds the high distinction of Hero of the Republic.
