Luanda: Angola’s President João Lourenço has announced the acquisition of the country’s first Boeing 787 Dreamliner aircraft, scheduled for delivery in early 2025. The announcement was made during the opening of official talks between Angolan and US delegations in Luanda. The President noted that this acquisition is part of a larger plan to procure a total of six aircraft.

According to Angola Press News Agency, Angola is collaborating with the American company Wings Group Consulting to achieve category 1 status under the Federal Aviation Administration. This goal aligns with the full operation of Luanda’s newly inaugurated international airport. President Lourenço emphasized the importance of this partnership in enhancing Angola’s aviation capabilities and improving its international standing.

President Lourenço also highlighted Angola’s intention to foster closer ties with the United States, aiming to attract investment and open up trade and business opportunities for Angolan investors in the American mark
et. He commended the United States for its contributions to food and energy security, as well as the economic and social development of Angola and the broader southern African region.

The President further detailed the collaborative efforts with NASA and the Maxar company through ANGOSAT-2, which provides high-resolution satellite imagery for monitoring natural disasters. This initiative forms part of the Program to Combat the Effects of Drought in Southern Angola (CESSA).

Additionally, President Lourenço announced that Angola will host the United States/Africa Summit in June 2025. The summit will gather politicians, business leaders, academics, and civil society representatives from both continents to discuss business, history, culture, and other areas of mutual interest.

Expressing a desire for American investment in infrastructure, President Lourenço called for involvement in constructing high-voltage power transmission lines. These projects, under a Public-Private Partnership regime, aim to benefit Sou
thern Africa, particularly the Copperbelt region, the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), and Namibia, by strengthening the electricity grid of the Southern African Development Community (SADC).

President Lourenço’s remarks also included praise for the U.S. support of Angola’s energy transition program, notably the construction of solar parks in southern Angola, which contribute to the region’s food and energy security.

The Boeing 787 Dreamliner is renowned for its advanced technology, interior design, fuel efficiency, and environmental sustainability, making it a significant addition to Angola’s aviation fleet.
