Maputo: The Speaker of the National Assembly, Carolina Cerqueira, participated in a collective tribute to Mozambican heroes on Wednesday in Maputo. This event was part of the celebrations marking the 50th anniversary of Mozambique’s independence.
According to Angola Press News Agency, the tribute was held at the Monument to Mozambican Heroes and was presided over by Mozambique’s Head of State, Daniel Chapo. The event saw the attendance of several heads of state, including Portugal’s President Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa, along with former Mozambican presidents Armando Guebuza, Joaquim Chissano, and Filipe Nyusi.
The Angolan delegation was led by Cerqueira, who represented President Joo Louren§o. The delegation also included Members of Parliament Ruth Mendes and Manuel Augusto, in addition to the Angolan ambassador to Mozambique, Juvelina Imperial.
Cerqueira’s participation underscored the strengthening of historical, political, and diplomatic ties between Angola and Mozambique. Both nations share a history of independence struggles and are committed to fostering bilateral cooperation and promoting regional integration.
This visit is part of Angola’s broader efforts to bolster relations with southern African countries through solidarity, parliamentary, and institutional exchanges.
