Angolan Olympic Committee Welcomes Anti-Doping Statute Approval

Luanda: The approval of the Organic Statute of the National Anti-Doping Agency of Angola (ANADA) by the Council of Ministers has been recognized as a significant advancement for sports justice and the protection of athletes in Angola, according to Pedro Godinho, the new president of the Angolan Olympic Committee (COA).

According to Angola Press News Agency, the document was endorsed during the Council’s 6th ordinary session, led by President Joo Lourenço. The approval of this legal instrument is expected to foster fairer and healthier competition among those involved in sports activities. Godinho emphasized that the statute is crucial for ensuring transparency and fairness in national sports, aligning with the ideals of Olympism which promote clean sport, compliance with game laws, and the elimination of negative practices such as doping.

Pedro Godinho, who succeeded Gustavo da Conceiço as the head of the COA for the period 2024-2028, expressed his views in a statement to Radio 5. He highlighted that the st
atute is designed to protect the integrity of sports, ensuring equity in competitions and safeguarding the interests of athletes, support staff, and other sports agents.

The Council of Ministers’ final communiqué stated that ANADA would be responsible for the implementation and supervision of anti-doping rules, in line with the World Anti-Doping Code and Angola’s Anti-Doping Law in Sport. The session also approved the Organic Statute of the Anti-Doping Disciplinary Council, ensuring its alignment with the international standards set by the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA). This move aims to standardize anti-doping rules and reinforce the responsibilities of sports agents, ensuring Angola’s compliance with international anti-doping conventions.
