Johannesburg: The President of the National Assembly, Ado de Almeida, expressed satisfaction with the election of Angolan MP L¡zaro de Oliveira Kakunha to the position of vice-president of the SADC Parliamentary Forum on Food, Agriculture, Natural Resources and Climate Action for the 2026-2028 term.
According to Angola Press News Agency, the election took place on May 22, 2026, during the Standing Committees Session of the SADC Parliamentary Forum, held in Johannesburg, South Africa. In a congratulatory message distributed on Friday, Ado de Almeida stated that the selection of the Angolan MP is a source of pride for the National Assembly of Angola. It is seen as recognition of the capacity, dedication, and commitment of Angolan MPs in regional bodies.
The parliamentary leader emphasized that this election strengthens Angola's active role in promoting parliamentary cooperation, food security, environmental preservation, sustainable management of natural resources, and climate action policies within the SADC region. In his message, the President of the Angolan Parliament wished Deputy L¡zaro Kakunha success in his new responsibilities, aiming for the benefit of Angola, the SADC region, and its people.
The commission's mission is to harmonize legislation and promote regional policies on food security, fisheries, water resources, the environment, and climate change mitigation in Southern Africa.
