Rio de Janeiro: Angolan Maria do Rosário Lima was appointed ambassador of the G20 Social, at the proposal of South Africa, at an event held last week in Rio de Janeiro, where she spoke about sustainability and community development in Angola.
According to Angola Press News Agency, the G20 Social is an unprecedented process created by the Brazilian presidency of the G20, aimed at expanding social participation in the debates for decisions of the G20 Leaders’ Summit. The Brazilian government has chosen three central axes for this initiative: the fight against hunger, poverty, and inequalities; sustainability, climate change, and just transition; and global governance reform.
Speaking to the press a day later, Maria do Rosário Lima expressed that her appointment is a testament to the country’s commitment to sustainable development and social inclusion. She emphasized Angola’s dedication to education and regional improvement. Her presentations at the event, which concluded on Saturday, highlighted Angola’s pote
ntial as a platform for inclusion. She engaged with businesses, diplomats, and the Brazilian government to explore collaborative efforts for Angola’s involvement in global discussions.
Maria Lima noted that global problems require global solutions, and after commending President Lula, she asserted that future Economic G20 meetings would not occur without a corresponding Social G20. She emphasized the importance of giving a voice to the grassroots, which are most affected by decisions made by world leaders.
In her capacity as an employee in the diamond industry, Lima stressed the necessity of amplifying the voices of communities and ensuring that both public spending and corporate budgets for social responsibility are effective and efficient. She conveyed a message to companies and consumers in the jewelry and diamond sectors, emphasizing that the true cost of mining should be the development of communities-a cause championed by organizations like Endiama and Sodiam.
