Angolan Man Arrested for Allegedly Attacking Another with a Panga in Oshikoto Region


Oshikoto region: An Angolan man has been arrested by the Namibian Police Force for allegedly attacking another Angolan man with a panga, inflicting serious injuries that required intensive medical care. The incident reportedly occurred at Ofilu cucashops in Oothadhambuku village, Oshikoto Region’s Omuntele Constituency.

According to Namibia News Agency, Deputy Commissioner Titus Ekandjo, the Crime Investigations Coordinator for NamPol in the Oshikoto Region, stated that the attack took place on Friday around 20h00. The 50-year-old suspect is alleged to have attacked a 36-year-old victim after an argument, the details of which remain unknown as the exchange occurred in their Angolan language. Following the argument, the suspect reportedly retrieved a panga from his home, returned to the cucashops, and attacked the victim, striking him three times on the head and twice on the left arm.

The victim, originally from the Otjihandji area in Angola, sustained serious injuries and was initially treated at Onanke cli
nic. He was then transported to Omuthiya District Hospital before being transferred to Onandjokwe state hospital, where he remains in critical condition in the Intensive Care Unit. Both the victim and the suspect are employed as domestic workers at different residences in the Onanke village.

The suspect, hailing from Santa Clare in Angola, has been arrested and charged with attempted murder. He is scheduled to appear before the Ondangwa Magistrate’s Court on Monday. The investigation into the incident is ongoing.
