Niamey: The Angolan Head of State, Joo Lourenço, on Wednesday sent a verbal message to Abdourahamane Tchiani, President of the National Council for the Safeguard of the Homeland in Niger. This communication focused on the political challenges and security situation in Niger and the broader Sahel region.
According to Angola Press News Agency, the message was delivered by Angolan Foreign Affairs Minister Téte António, who met with Tchiani in Niamey. Joo Lourenço, acting as Chairman of the African Union, instructed the Foreign Minister to emphasize the importance of peace in the region.
Since assuming the pro tempore presidency of the African Union, Joo Lourenço has expressed concern over the ongoing situation in the Sahel, along with the persistent armed conflicts across Africa. As a Champion of Peace and Reconciliation in Africa, he has been vocal about the need for African leaders to adopt constructive and inclusive dialogue as a means to resolve conflicts and crises on the continent.
