Luanda: The Angolan government has made significant investments in demining programs and the reintegration of former military personnel following the conclusion of the armed conflict in Angola, President Joo Louren§o announced in Luanda. In his State of the Nation Address, Louren§o emphasized the State's focus on social assistance for children, individuals with disabilities, and the repatriation of war refugees as key priorities post-war.
According to Angola Press News Agency, President Louren§o acknowledged the crucial role played by the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) in reuniting families affected by the conflict. UNHCR, a UN agency, is dedicated to protecting and assisting those displaced by war. Louren§o highlighted the importance of social assistance in providing support and hope to war victims, especially orphaned children and displaced individuals.
The president further outlined the government's current efforts, which concentrate on establishing integrated social action centers and providing food support to vulnerable families, elderly people, and ethnic minority groups, including the Khoisan and Herero communities.
On the topic of infrastructure, Louren§o stressed its critical role in national development, noting the extensive damage it sustained during the war. He remarked that the past 23 years of peace have been characterized by continuous investment in both the reconstruction and new construction of essential infrastructure across the nation.
