Luanda: Paulo Madeira, the Secretary of State for Sport, has praised Real Madrid footballer Eduardo Camavinga's initiative to establish a football academy in Angola, describing it as a project of paramount importance for the nation. Madeira, representing the Minister of Youth and Sports, Rui Falco, emphasized the significance of Camavinga's intentions, acknowledging the footballer as a universal reference and a proud son of Angola.
According to Angola Press News Agency, Madeira expressed the need for role models for the youth and athletes in Angola and highlighted Camavinga as a prominent figure in the world of sports. He stressed that having an internationally successful Angolan return to contribute to the development of sports in the country is more impactful than any club or organizational effort. The government values Camavinga's commitment to leaving a legacy in his homeland.
Madeira further mentioned that the meeting with Camavinga and his family was productive, with the Angolan government committed to supporting the project's realization. He assured that the ministry would facilitate the project's progress, providing institutional support while acknowledging that private projects remain outside the state's direct development scope.
Eduardo Camavinga confirmed his visit to Luanda aims to evaluate the conditions for opening a sports academy with an academic component, emphasizing the importance of integrating sports and education. "Yes, I am in my country to contribute to the futures of children and young people," Camavinga stated.
Reflecting on his discussion with the Secretary of State, Camavinga mentioned receiving assurances of full support for his future endeavors. Currently in Luanda since Monday, the Angolan-born Real Madrid player plans to visit the Kuzola foster center for a charity event on Tuesday.
