Malabo: Angola's Foreign Affairs Minister Téte António is presiding over the 47th Ordinary Session of the Executive Council of the African Union, which commenced on Thursday morning in Malabo, Equatorial Guinea. This session marks the first since Angola took the helm of the continental organization. According to Angola Press News Agency, a press release from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs indicates that Minister António is chairing this significant meeting in his capacity as the president of the Executive Council of the African Union. The session holds particular significance due to its focus on advancing African integration and enhancing coordinated diplomatic efforts among member states. The two-day event will address several key issues, including the draft agenda for the upcoming 7th Biannual Coordination Meeting involving the African Union, Regional Economic Communities (RECs), and Regional Mechanisms. Additionally, participants will analyze the Report of the 50th Ordinary Session of the Committee of P ermanent Representatives (CRP). Other focal points of the session include the Report of the Joint Session of the Ministerial Committee on the Scale of Assessment and the Committee of Fifteen Finance Ministers (F15), the Report of the Ministerial Committee on African candidacies within the International System, and progress monitoring of the Implementation of Agenda 2063. Furthermore, the council will deliberate on the election and appointment of various members to African Union bodies. This includes the appointment of two AU commissioners, five members of the Advisory Board against Corruption, and members of the Panel of the Wise. The session commenced with speeches by notable dignitaries, including Simeón Oyono Esono Ange, Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation, and Diaspora of Equatorial Guinea; Mahamoud Ali Youssouf, Chairperson of the AU Commission; Claver Gatete, Executive Secretary of UNECA; and Téte António, Chair of the AU Executive Council.
