Angolan Attorney General Optimistic About Assets Recovery

Luanda: The Attorney General, Helder Pitta Groz, on Tuesday expressed optimism regarding the recovery of Angolan assets diverted abroad, whose cases are currently being processed. The magistrate made the statement at the end of the launching of the Strategic Plan to Combat Crimes against Wildlife and the Environment in Angola, an initiative of the Attorney General's Office aimed at reducing criminal activity in these areas.

According to Angola Press News Agency, the prosecutor highlighted the significant funds located in foreign countries, including approximately one billion US dollars in Switzerland, over 500 million in Singapore, and about 200 million in Bermuda. He assured that there is a concerted effort by both the Attorney General's Office and the government to ensure the effective recovery of these assets.

The magistrate emphasized that these funds are expected to be returned to Angola, alleviating concerns about potential losses. He noted that robust and secure foundations have been established at the Attorney General's Office to support ongoing anti-corruption efforts.

Asset recovery in Angola, led by the National Asset Recovery Service (SENRA) of the Attorney General's Office, has successfully reclaimed more than 19 billion US dollars in assets, including real estate, companies, and money, both domestically and internationally by the end of 2024. This initiative underscores the country's commitment to combating corruption and money laundering, focusing on voluntary asset surrender and definitive seizures.
