Angolan and Zambian Police Enhance Border Security Cooperation

Luena: The National Police of Angola and Zambia have reinforced their strategic cooperation to boost security along their shared land and river borders. This initiative was formalized in a meeting held in Luena, Moxico province, gathering military officers from both countries stationed in Angola's Moxico and Zambia's Western Mungu provinces.

According to Angola Press News Agency, Moxico's National Police Commander, Dias do Nascimento, highlighted that the enhanced cooperation aims to improve organization at border posts and ensure safe movement for people and goods. He emphasized the necessity of protecting the extensive and vulnerable borders to curb criminal activities.

David Tchilef, the police commander from Zambia's western province of Mungu, underscored the meeting's significance, articulating an urgent need for increased cooperation to maintain effective border surveillance. He noted that this partnership is expected to deter crimes such as fuel smuggling and human trafficking.

Moxico's Governor, Ernesto Muangala, commended the collaborative efforts, which trace back to governmental initiatives started two years ago with the signing of memorandums in various sectors. He expressed optimism that this symbolic meeting could strategically bolster border patrols to prevent trafficking in weapons, drugs, and human beings, thereby fostering a secure environment for citizens from both nations.

Moxico and Moxico Leste share a border of 747 kilometers with Zambia, through the localities of Luau, Caianda, Jimbi, Luhuza, Caripande, Mussuma, Mitete and Malundi.
