Angolan Ambassador Rui Orlando Xavier Begins Diplomatic Mission in Togo

Lom©: Angola's ambassador to Togo, Rui Orlando Xavier, presented his letters of credence on Wednesday in Lom© to the Director-General of State Protocol for Togo, Abdel Fofana; this act marks the formal beginning of his diplomatic duties in that West African nation.

According to Angola Press News Agency, the ceremony took place at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Cooperation, African Integration, and Togolese Abroad of the Republic of Togo-a protocol step preceding the official accreditation of the Angolan diplomatic representative, who holds non-resident status.

Angola and Togo maintain cooperative relations based on friendship, mutual respect, and diplomatic consultation regarding African and international issues, within a framework of strengthening their bilateral partnership. Although economic exchange between the two countries remains at low levels, Luanda and Lom© have expressed interest in expanding cooperation in the fields of diplomacy, the economy, trade, culture, education, and institutional capacity building.

At the political-diplomatic level, the two states maintain regular consultations and coordinate positions within the African Union, the United Nations, and other international organizations on matters of common interest. Cooperation also extends to areas linked to the promotion of peace and security in Africa, highlighting efforts to resolve conflicts on the continent, as well as the encouragement of bilateral trade, investment, and the exchange of experiences in public administration, professional training, and institutional development.

High-level contacts between Angola and Togo have gained new momentum in recent years.
