Luanda: The vice president of Angola, Esperan§a da Costa, met on Thursday with the presiding judge of Brazil's Superior Court of Justice, Antonio Benjamim, to discuss issues related to the climate crisis and bilateral cooperation in judicial training. Speaking to the press at the end of the meeting, the Brazilian magistrate said they addressed the issue of the environmental crisis to assess legal norms that are better drafted, implemented and prevent the phenomenon.
According to Angola Press News Agency, the magistrate said the two parties assessed the forest protection issue, since Brazil and Angola are forestry superpowers, notwithstanding the importance for local populations, for water, flora, fauna and for the climate, which face increasing pressures. He spoke of the need to ensure the compatibility of economic development with the protection of these resources, today and tomorrow, due to climate change.
Ant³nio Benjamin highlighted the discussion focused on the growing and necessary judicial cooperation between Brazil and Angola, which share similar problems, emphasizing the need to find common solutions in the area of judicial training.
The Brazilian magistrate also reported that more than 30 Angolan judges are in Brazil for training and that the main objective of the visit to Angola is to expand cooperation in the field of judicial training. The judicial magistrate underscored the importance of the digitization in the judicial system as it enabled saving time and transportation and procedural speed.
