Luanda: Angola's national under-16 karate team secured a gold medal in the under-55 kg category at the Community of Portuguese-Speaking Countries (CPLP) Games held in Dili, East Timor, on Friday. The victory was marked by Jesus Muanza's 3-2 win over Alexandre Nessi from Timor-Leste. According to Angola Press News Agency, the gold medal was awarded to Muanza by Rui Falco, the Minister of Youth and Sports. This achievement marks Muanza's second international title, following his success at the zonal championship in Namibia in 2024. Other Angolan athletes also shone at the event, with Patrícia Neto, Emília Vela, and Naria Soares each earning bronze medals. On the same day, Angola anticipated further success, with expectations of winning additional gold medals in the men's 3x3 basketball final against Cabo Verde and the women's final against Portugal. Additionally, the national team is aiming for gold in the classical chess tournament. The Angolan delegation at the CPLP Games comprises 100 members. The Dili Ga mes feature participation from other countries, including Portugal, Cabo Verde, Mozambique, So Tomé and Príncipe, and Timor-Leste.
