New york: The Secretary of State for International Cooperation and Angolan Communities, Domingos Vieira Lopes, is participating, from May 5th to 8th, in the International Migration Review Forum 2026, at the UN headquarters in New York.

According to Angola Press News Agency, the event, taking place under the theme "Implementation of the Global Compact for Migration in a 360-degree approach, based on migration routes", presents itself as a relevant opportunity to strengthen international dialogue. Likewise, it serves to promote practical solutions and consolidate partnerships, contributing to a safer, more orderly, and regular migration management, for the benefit of States and migrants.

The note states that the Angolan delegation includes, among others, the Charg© d'Affaires of the Permanent Mission of Angola to the UN, Mateus Luemba, the Director-General of the Institute of Angolan Communities Abroad and Consular Services, Maria Filomena Neto Ant³nio, and the advisor to the Secretary of State, Laurinda do Ros¡rio Monteiro. As part of the work agenda, the delegation members participated on Tuesday in a round table discussion that analyzed Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) 2, 5, 6, 12, and 18. In the afternoon, the Secretary of State for International Cooperation chaired the coordination meeting for the country's participation in the Forum.

The International Migration Review Forum (IMRF) is the principal intergovernmental mechanism of the United Nations for monitoring and reviewing the implementation of the Global Compact for Safe, Orderly and Regular Migration (GCM), adopted in 2018. The event takes place in an international context marked by growing challenges associated with human mobility, including the increase in irregular migration, the intensification of climatic and economic factors driving migratory movements, the need to strengthen regular migration pathways and the importance of ensuring coordinated, balanced and human rights-based responses.

It will provide an opportunity for Member States to assess progress made, identify persistent challenges and discuss ways to strengthen international cooperation in implementing the Global Compact for Migration, with a particular focus on an integrated, route-based approach.
