Luanda: Angola was recently chosen to host the International Tourism Fair Berlin (ITB), the world’s largest tourism event, from March 3 to 5, 2026, ANGOP has learnt. This marks Angola’s return to ITB Berlin after a decade, as the country last participated in 2015. Angola will be the third African country to host the event, following Tunisia in 2007 and Botswana in 2017.
According to Angola Press News Agency, the Angolan Embassy in Germany made the announcement, adding that the fair will allow the country to showcase its tourism potential to the world, positioning it as a popular and well-known tourist destination for travelers from around the globe. The distinction represents international recognition of Angola’s tourism potential and its commitment to sustainable development and economic diversification.
Marcio Daniel, minister of Tourism, expressed that this is a moment of affirmation and vision. It is a milestone that places Angola at the center of the global tourism map, symbolizing the country’s maturi
ty and confidence. “We transition from being exhibitors to hosts and from participants to protagonists. It reflects the trajectory of a country that takes tourism seriously, consolidates it, and believes in cooperation as a driver of growth,” the minister said.
In addition to Angola’s nomination to host the event this week, Angolan tourism was recognized abroad when three national representatives were honored with the 2025 Africa Tourism Awards. The Africa Tourism Awards are one of the most prestigious tourism promotion platforms on the continent. Jessi Madalena, the brand ambassador for Visit Angola – The Rhythm of Life, won the “Young Tourism Personality of the Year Award,” recognizing young leaders who stand out for their innovation and contribution to the sustainable development of the tourism sector in Africa.
Allícia Santos, the director-general of the Institute for Tourism Development (INFOTUR), was selected as one of the five winners of the “Industry Icon Award,” recognizing individuals whose leader
ship and vision have driven the growth and modernization of the tourism sector on the continent. Similarly, José Manuel, a Visit Angola brand ambassador, is a finalist for the “Best Tourism Photography Award” for his artistic work promoting Africa’s natural and cultural beauty. The winner will be announced at the awards gala on November 2, 2025, at the Hilton London Canary Wharf.
