Angola to Export Salt to the Democratic Republic of Congo

Mbanza kongo: Angola will start exporting iodized salt to the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) as of next week, under a memorandum signed on Friday in the city of Mbanza Kongo, Zaire province. According to Angola Press News Agency, two Angolan salt companies, Salinas Calombolo and Macaca, along with a DRC company, Mbakidi Ngangu, have signed a cooperation agreement as part of the Expo-Kongo 2025. This agreement facilitates the export of Angolan iodized salt to the DRC, marking a significant step in trade relations between the two countries. The commercial director of Salinas Calombolo, Nercia Tailer, announced that the company will increase its production levels to supply both the domestic market and the DRC. Salinas Calombolo, headquartered in Benguela province on Angola's southern coast, has been operational for 50 years and currently produces 200,000 tons of salt for human consumption each month. The company has approximately 80,000 tons of salt in stock ready for export. Joaquim Frederico Mingui, man ager of the DRC company Mbakidi Ngangu, stated that in the initial phase, his company will import 40,000 bags of salt, each weighing 25 kilos, from Angola. He emphasized the quality of the product produced in Angola, which is expected to meet the needs of the DRC market. Fátima Delicado, the national director of Fisheries and Salt from the Ministry of Fisheries and Marine Resources, who witnessed the signing of the memorandum, highlighted that the agreement aligns with the Executive policies aimed at diversifying Angola's national economy. She noted that Angola is self-sufficient in iodized salt production and should focus on attracting more partners to export the surplus.
