Angola Targets 9,000 MW Energy Production by 2027

Luanda: The Angolan government has set an ambitious goal to elevate its electricity production from 6,400 megawatts (MW) to 9,000 MW by the year 2027. This target coincides with the anticipated completion of the Caculo Caba§a Hydroelectric Plant, marking a significant stride in the nation's energy sector.

According to Angola Press News Agency, the announcement was made by the Secretary of State for Energy, Arlindo Carlos, during a press briefing at the 2nd International Conference on Energy and Water in Luanda. Carlos emphasized that this projection is part of the Angolan Executive's broader commitment to bolstering the energy sector to meet the demands of a rapidly growing population, which is increasing by over 1.5 million inhabitants annually.

Arlindo Carlos highlighted that the Caculo Caba§a project will boast an installed capacity of 2,172 MW, making it one of the largest hydroelectric facilities in Sub-Saharan Africa, second only to Ethiopia's Grand Renaissance Dam. This development is a cornerstone of Angola's strategy to enhance energy infrastructure and capacity.

The 2nd International Energy and Water Conference has gathered experts, academics, and industry leaders from around the world, including representatives from North America, South America, Asia, and Europe, as well as numerous African nations. The event underscores the global interest and collaboration in Angola's energy and water sectors.
