Maputo: Approximately 20 tons of goods were delivered to Mozambican authorities by the Angolan government to help mitigate the impact of recent floods in Mozambique. The supplies are part of a larger 75-ton batch aimed at assisting flood victims.
According to Angola Press News Agency, the donation was transported by an IL 76 aircraft from the Angola National Air Force and handed over by Angola's Secretary of State for Health, Pinto de Sousa, to Mozambique's Secretary of State for Commerce, Ant³nio Cristo. This delivery represents the first of three planned shipments to the Mozambican capital.
Pinto de Sousa emphasized Angola's commitment to supporting Mozambique in its efforts to alleviate the flood's consequences. He mentioned that the aid includes essential items such as medicines, consumable materials, clothing, food, and tents, reflecting Angola's solidarity with its neighbor.
The National Institute for Disaster Management (INGD) of Mozambique reported that approximately 812,000 people have been affected by the floods. Messias Pascoal, Director of Administration and Finance of the INGD, acknowledged the critical role of the aid in reducing the floods' impact, which began about two weeks ago. He extended gratitude to Angola for its supportive gesture during this challenging time.
