Malabo: Angola's Foreign Affairs Minister T©te Ant³nio Thursday in Malabo, Equatorial Guinea, reiterated his country's commitment to lead the African Union (AU) with shared wisdom, listening to all voices and honoring the fundamental principles of the continental organization. The head of Angolan diplomacy, chairing the 47th Ordinary Session of the Executive Council of the African Union, emphasized the principles of unity, sovereignty, peace, sustainable development, social justice, and African dignity.
According to Angola Press News Agency, this session marked the first since Angola assumed the rotating presidency of the AU in February, with a focus on responsibility, a conciliatory stance, cooperation, and rigor. T©te Ant³nio expressed gratitude to the Member States for their trust in Angola, highlighting the country's commitment to continental duty.
T©te Ant³nio emphasized the role of the Executive Council as a crucial pillar of the AU's institutional framework, responsible for upholding decisions made by the Conference of Heads of State and Government and furthering continental integration. The council is tasked with ensuring coherence between the organization's organs and realizing the aspirations of Agenda 2063, known as 'Africa We Want', into tangible actions for the well-being of African peoples.
He called on attending ministers and representatives to leverage their knowledge and experience to achieve constructive consensus, underscoring the strength of unity. Over the coming days, the Executive Council will address strategically important issues, requiring vision and political courage, with a focus on activities of the organization's Permanent Representatives Committee and the work of the Ministerial Committee on the Scale of Assessment and the Committee of Fifteen Finance Ministers, or F15.
Antonio noted that decisions made during these discussions will formalize the political consensus achieved during the session, reflecting collective sovereignty and providing binding guidelines for the future of the AU.
