Angola Joins International Effort for Inclusive Intellectual Property System

Geneva: Angola joined, this Tuesday, in promoting a more inclusive, balanced, and sensitive international Intellectual Property system for developing countries. This position was expressed by the Permanent Representative of Angola to the United Nations Office and other International Organizations in Geneva, Ambassador Ana Maria de Oliveira, when speaking at the extraordinary session of the 67th Assembly of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO).

According to Angola Press News Agency, the idea supported by Angola was also adopted by South Africa, on behalf of the African Group, Portugal, through the Community of Portuguese-Speaking Countries (CPLP), as well as by Nepal, on behalf of the Least Developed Countries. A note from the Institutional Communication and Press Services of the Permanent Representation of Angola to the United Nations Office and other International Organizations in Geneva, sent to ANGOP this Wednesday, indicates that the extraordinary session of the 67th WIPO Assembly also served for the presentation of Daren Tang, re-elected to the position of Director-General of WIPO.

The Angolan diplomat reiterated Angola's commitment to actively collaborate with WIPO and its member states in strengthening capacities, access to knowledge, and stimulating innovation as drivers of inclusive growth.

Maria de Oliveira also highlighted the need for enhanced cooperation to address emerging challenges such as digital transformation, the creative economy, and the valorization of endogenous resources. The Angolan diplomat reaffirmed her confidence in Daren Tang's mandate as Director-General of WIPO and Angola's full willingness to contribute to a more effective, inclusive organization that is oriented towards the concrete needs of its members.
