Luanda: The Ministry of Tourism and UN Tourism signed a memorandum on Friday in Mah©, Seychelles, formalizing Angola's accession as a co-founding country of the new global UNT-PASS platform, designed to mobilize investment in tourism.
According to Angola Press News Agency, the legal instrument was signed by the Minister of Tourism, M¡rcio Daniel, and the Secretary-General of UN Tourism, Shaikha Al Nowais, on the sidelines of the 69th meeting of the UN Tourism Regional Commission for Africa, currently taking place in Seychelles.
In a statement sent to ANGOP, the Ministry of Tourism emphasized that the signing of the document implements the decision set forth in Presidential Order No. 247/26 of June 22, which approved Angola's participation in this international initiative as a co-founding country.
UNT-PASS is a new platform promoted by the UN specialized agency, UN Tourism, to connect strategic tourism projects with institutional investors, multilateral development banks, sovereign wealth funds, and private investors, thereby strengthening the international mechanism for the preparation, promotion, and facilitation of investment in the sector.
By joining the initiative at its inception, Angola will participate in shaping its institutional and operational development, contributing to the creation of a global platform geared toward financing and accelerating tourism projects with high economic impact.
Angola's participation in UNT-PASS reinforces the national strategy to promote private investment in tourism, creating better conditions for national tourism projects to be prepared and presented in line with international standards, thereby increasing their visibility, credibility, and capacity to attract funding.
According to the statement, the signing of the memorandum marks another step in deepening cooperation between Angola and UN Tourism and reflects the Angolan government's commitment to economic diversification and the sustainable development of the country's tourism assets.
