Angola Debuts at African Canoe Cup with Gold Medal

Luanda: Angolan sprint canoeist Domingos Pacavira won the gold medal at the African Canoe Championships in Luanda by triumphing in the 1000m (C1) final with a time of 4m48s39. This achievement marks Angola's first medal in the event as the country hosts the championships. According to Angola Press News Agency, Pacavira was the fastest among six competitors in the Under-23 event, finishing five seconds ahead of second-placed Egyptian Yousef Taha, who recorded a time of 4:53.39. Nigerian athlete Isyaka Ibrahim secured the third position with a time of 4m55s74. The canoe sprinter from Clube Naval took a moment to honor his father, Fortunato Pacavira, a prominent figure in the sport nationally. Domingos Pacavira now joins a distinguished group of Angolan athletes who have won medals in this distance, following the successes of Alerio Paulo in the 2009 championships and Fátima António in the 2011 championships held in Maputo, alongside his father's notable achievements. In addition to Pacavira's victory, Angola qualified for the final of the 1000m Kayak (K1) event, with Simo Camazaulo finishing in second place. The final of this event is scheduled for Saturday. Angola continues its participation in the championships today, competing in four events, with Geovane Fidalgo being a notable contender in the junior 1000m C1.
