Luanda: The Vietnamese President Luong Cuong has embarked on a significant 72-hour state visit to Angola, initiated on Thursday at the invitation of his Angolan counterpart, Joo Louren§o, to reinvigorate bilateral cooperation between the two nations. This marks the first state visit by the Vietnamese leader to Angola as both countries commemorate 50 years of diplomatic relations, aiming to elevate their strategic cooperation to a new level.
According to Angola Press News Agency, Angola and Vietnam established their diplomatic ties on November 12, 1975, shortly after Angola declared its independence. President Luong Cuong arrived in Luanda on Wednesday afternoon, with the visit scheduled to conclude on August 9. A pivotal moment of this visit will be the meeting between the two heads of state at the Presidential Palace.
This visit serves as an opportunity to evaluate the current state of cooperation and establish new objectives for the future. Strategic agreements are expected to be signed in crucial areas, including telecommunications, economic diplomacy, and the encouragement of private investment. The agenda also emphasizes promoting Angola as Vietnam's key partner on the African continent, leveraging Angola's current rotating presidency of the African Union (AU).
The visit is anticipated to strengthen Angola's role as a link between the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) and the AU, thereby broadening Vietnam's footprint in Africa.
