Angola and Venezuela Strengthen Parliamentary Diplomacy and Trade Relations

Luanda: The strengthening of parliamentary diplomacy and the constituent process in Venezuela were the main topics during a meeting on Wednesday between Carolina Cerqueira, the Speaker of the National Assembly of Angola, and B©len Orsini Pic, the ambassador of Venezuela.

According to Angola Press News Agency, the meeting was described as a courtesy visit by the Venezuelan diplomat, who conveyed greetings from the Speaker of the Venezuelan National Assembly. Relations between Angola and Venezuela have been developing significantly in various areas, including parliamentary diplomacy.

The diplomat expressed honor in conveying the greetings of the Venezuelan people to the Angolan people, specifically during the celebration of Angola's 50th anniversary of national independence. The meeting also included discussions on enhancing relations in foreign trade, considering both countries' roles as oil producers with a variety of minerals.

B©len Orsini Pic highlighted the potential for economic relations between the two nations to strengthen later this year, expressing hope for positive developments from the Angolan authorities to increase trade. She noted that commercial activity between Angola and Venezuela is still nascent but is expected to grow within the year.

In terms of parliamentary diplomacy, the Venezuelan Parliament has proposed the creation of a Venezuela-Angola Parliamentary Friendship Group. Furthermore, the Angolan Parliament has been invited to observe the legislative elections in Venezuela scheduled for May this year, with formal arrangements to be finalized soon.

Diplomatic relations between Angola and Venezuela have existed for 37 years and were notably boosted during the tenure of former President Hugo Ch¡vez, who prioritized peace and South-South cooperation, particularly with African nations, as part of his Bolivarian diplomacy objectives.
