Luanda: Angola and Serbia on Thursday concluded in Belgrade the formation of three cooperation agreements and two memorandums of understanding, in the fields of trade, aviation, telecommunications and media.
According to Angola Press News Agency, the documents were discussed from Monday to Thursday by technical teams from the two countries, who worked on finalizing the terms of the partnership.
The delegations agreed on the text of the proposal for the Agreement on the Promotion and Reciprocal Protection of Investments, to be signed by the Ministry of Industry and Trade of Angola and the Ministry of Economy of Serbia. The parties also agreed on the text of the proposal for the Agreement on Air Services, to be signed between the National Civil Aviation Agency (ANAC) and the Civil Aviation Directorate of Serbia. Additionally, a cooperation agreement was established between the news agencies ANGOP (Angola) and TANJUG (Serbia).
Further discussions were held on the proposals for the Memorandum of Understanding between the Ministry of Telecommunications, Information Technologies and Social Communication of Angola and the Ministry of Information and Telecommunications of Serbia, in the field of Information and Communication Technologies. The technical teams also worked on the proposal for the Memorandum of Understanding between the Post Services of Angola and Serbia.
Such agreements and memoranda of understanding shall be formally signed by the parties after the diplomatic procedures have been finalized. Angola and Serbia have maintained diplomatic and political relations since the early days of independence and currently have several cooperation agreements.
The two states, which are working for the reactivation of the Joint Bilateral Commission, established political-diplomatic and cooperation, technical-scientific, and cultural relations in 1977, when the General Agreement on Economic and Technical-Scientific Cooperation was signed. The Bilateral Joint Commission aims to boost cooperation between the two countries, especially in the areas of agriculture, livestock, and manufacturing, in addition to balancing the trade balance.
In recent times, Serbia has expressed interest in investing in Angola, particularly in the areas of knowledge and technology.
The two states have already signed more than 10 agreements and made visits by several Angolan delegations to Belgrade between 2020 and 2023.
