Luanda: Angola and Kyrgyzstan expressed their intention to bolster bilateral relations in the exploration of oil and natural gas, as well as in the sectors of higher education, science, technology, and innovation. This development emerged from a meeting between delegations from both countries in Luanda, aimed at enhancing bilateral relations.

According to Angola Press News Agency, the discussions were led by Angola’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, T©te Ant³nio, and Kyrgyzstan’s Vice Prime Minister, Edil Baisalov, who visited Luanda as the special envoy of the Kyrgyzstan President. The meeting underscored the need to formalize new cooperation tools to strengthen partnerships between the two nations.

The delegations also exchanged views on regional and international issues, emphasizing collaboration within the United Nations and the South-South Cooperation framework. Vice Prime Minister Baisalov congratulated Angola on assuming the presidency of the African Union (AU) and acknowledged Angola’s strategic role on the continent.

Baisalov stressed the importance of Angola receiving support from its allies as it leads the African continent. Despite establishing diplomatic relations on May 31, 2002, Angola and Kyrgyzstan’s ties are still developing. Both governments aim to identify areas of mutual interest to expand the legal framework between them, aligning policies for cooperation both bilaterally and within international organizations.

The two countries signed a Memorandum of Understanding on the Establishment of Political Consultative Mechanisms in Baku, Azerbaijan, during the COP-29 Summit in November 2024. Furthermore, in September 2024, on the sidelines of the 79th session of the UN General Assembly in New York, the nations expressed interest in strengthening political-diplomatic cooperation through the signing of legal instruments.
