Angola and Italy Celebrate 50 Years of Diplomacy with Dance and Poetry

Luanda: Angola and Italy will share experiences in the areas of dance and poetry from April 9th to 24th in Luanda, in order to celebrate 50 years of diplomatic relations between the two countries. This initiative marks a significant cultural collaboration aimed at strengthening ties and fostering artistic exchange between the two nations. According to Angola Press News Agency, this series of activities, titled Angola-Italy, is designed to facilitate an "artistic dialogue" through a variety of exchange actions between the two States. The announcement was made by Francisco Makiesse, the general director of the "Atelier de D´Artes do Lucengomono," during the "Maka à Quarta-feira" debate event hosted by the Angolan Writers' Union (UEA). Francisco Makiesse detailed that the program will include activities featuring Italian dancer and poet Ginevra Spinozzi, who will engage in roundtables, seminars, and online classes with Angolan artists. The cultural festivities will culminate on April 24th with a contemporary d ance performance showcasing both Angolan and Italian artists. Ginevra Spinozzi expressed her enthusiasm about the opportunity to share her culture with Angolan artists and to learn from their rich traditions. During the "Maka à Quarta-Feira" event, she emphasized the importance of dance as a medium to express emotions and ideas that are difficult to convey through words alone, and highlighted poetry's role in rekindling hope and consciousness. The event is being organized by "Atelier D'Artes Lucengomono" and the "Companhia Nacional de Ópera de Angola" (CNOPERA), in collaboration with the Italian Embassy in Angola and supported by UEA and the "Círculo de Estudos Linguísticos e Literários Litteragris." This cultural exchange program not only celebrates the half-century milestone of diplomatic relations but also seeks to create a lasting cultural bridge between Angola and Italy, encouraging mutual understanding and creativity among artists from both countries. The diplomatic relationship, established shortly after Angola's independence on November 11, 1975, is regarded as both solid and strategic.
