Luanda: Angola and India discussed mechanisms for deepening parliamentary cooperation on Wednesday, with emphasis on the exchange of visits, the creation of parliamentary friendship groups, and training and capacity-building actions. This occurred during an audience that the President of the National Assembly, Adao de Almeida, granted to the Indian Ambassador to Angola, Vidhu Nair.
According to Angola Press News Agency, the Indian diplomat said he had taken advantage of the meeting to congratulate the leader of the Angolan Parliament on assuming a position of high institutional responsibility. Vidhu Nair highlighted that the talks focused on concrete opportunities for cooperation between the parliaments of Angola and India, recalling the recent visit of the President of India to Angola last November, as part of the celebrations of the 50th Anniversary of National Independence.
During the visit, the President of India addressed the Angolan Parliament in a session attended by several deputies from the Nationa
l Assembly. This was seen as a demonstration of the mutual interest in strengthening parliamentary relations. The ambassador noted that Angola plays an important role in the African democratic context, while India asserts itself as the largest democracy in the world, creating solid foundations for deeper cooperation between the two legislative institutions.
Vidhu Nair stated that direct contact between parliamentarians contributes to strengthening bilateral relations and more effective collaboration at the international level and within multilateral organizations, considering the central role of parliaments in drafting laws and consolidating democracy.
