Luanda: The Speaker of the National Assembly, Ado de Almeida, and the Egyptian ambassador to Angola, Neveen El-Husseiny, discussed on Tuesday in Luanda the possibility of creating a Friendship Committee between the two parliaments to strengthen existing relations.
According to Angola Press News Agency, the intention was expressed by the Egyptian diplomat following a meeting with the Angolan parliament Speaker. The discussion centered on how the two parliaments can enhance and improve bilateral cooperation. Ambassador Neveen El-Husseiny emphasized the necessity of establishing the Friendship Committee to ensure that the connection between the two parliaments is robust and reflective of the political relations between the countries.
The diplomat highlighted that during the upcoming Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU), scheduled to be held in Turkey this year, efforts will be made to facilitate a meeting between the two parliaments. The IPU is a prominent international organization that unites the parliaments of sovereign states globally, with a mission to promote democracy, peace, human rights, and sustainable development through political dialogue and cooperation among parliamentarians.
In terms of trade cooperation, the diplomat pointed out that there are numerous sectors in which the two states can collaborate more effectively, particularly in agriculture, fertilizer production, health, and the pharmaceutical sector. Relations between Angola and Egypt, formalized in 1987, are presently experiencing strong dynamism, with a focus on economic cooperation, health, energy, and defense.
Recently, the two countries signed multiple agreements, including Memoranda of Understanding in health, civil aviation, and information technologies, aimed at attracting Egyptian investment and strengthening the bilateral strategic partnership.
