Angola and Congo Sign Memorandum to Regulate Cross-Border Communications

Luanda: A memorandum aimed at ensuring that communications do not cross borders was signed on Friday in Luanda between the Angolan Institute of Communications (INACOM) and the Regulatory Authority for Telecommunications and Postal Services of the Republic of Congo. The agreement was initialed by the Chairman of the Board of Directors of INACOM, Joaquim Muhongo, on behalf of Angola, and by the Director of the Regulatory Authority for Telecommunications and Postal Services of the Republic of Congo, Marc Sakala.

According to Angola Press News Agency, the act, carried out during the 6th edition of the Angola International Forum on Information and Communication Technologies (ANGOTIC), was witnessed by the Minister of Telecommunications, Information Technology and Social Communication, M¡rio Oliveira. At the event, the Chairman of the Board of Directors of INACOM explained to the press that this is about complying with existing rules at the level of the International Telecommunication Union, according to which countries must make agreements on signal strength and penetration among themselves.

Joaquim Muhongo emphasized the technical efforts made to measure and ensure that communications do not interfere or overflow across borders. "The perspective is security, ensuring that the expansion of services does not overflow beyond the borders of the national territory, nor is it invaded by operators from other countries," he stated.

Marc Sakala, representing the Republic of Congo, underscored the importance of the agreement, noting that it enables both countries to collaborate in providing services that meet customer needs. "Today we are already going to guarantee frequency services, interference between the two countries, so that customers can have a better quality of service," he remarked.

He also highlighted the bilateral exchange of experiences between Angola and the Republic of Congo, particularly in relation to the submarine fiber optic cable that runs through both countries. This memorandum will allow work on frequency and interference to ensure that users have a better service.

The ANGOTIC forum, opened on Thursday by Minister M¡rio Oliveira, runs until Saturday under the theme "On the Road to Digital Transformation." Initiated by the Ministry of Telecommunications, Information Technologies and Social Communication (MINTTICS), the forum is Angola's premier ICT event, convening companies, startups, experts, academics, and government institutions for innovation, debate, and networking.
