Addis Ababa: Angola and Comoros signed a new legal instrument on Thursday, February 13, in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, to strengthen cooperation, friendship, and solidarity between the two countries. The signing took place at the Angolan Embassy during the 38th Summit of Heads of State and Government of the African Union.
According to Angola Press News Agency, the General Cooperation Agreement establishes ties in political, economic, scientific, and social fields. This document was initialed by Angola’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Téte António, and Comoros’ Head of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Mbae Mohamed. It sets the general bases for promoting technical cooperation between both states.
With this agreement, Angola and Comoros commit to developing and strengthening relations based on legal equality, mutual respect, national sovereignty, and territorial integrity. The nations pledge to avoid interference in each other’s internal affairs while safeguarding mutual interests.
Meanwhile, the 46th
ordinary session of the Executive Council of the African Union, which began on Wednesday, concludes this Thursday. It serves as preparation for the Summit of African Heads of State and Government, scheduled for the 15th to the 16th of this month. During this summit, Angolan President Joo Lourenço will assume the leadership of the continental organization.
The Angolan Head of State is expected to arrive in Addis Ababa in the afternoon. On Friday, Joo Lourenço will attend an AU Peace and Security Council meeting to discuss the situation in Sudan and the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).
