Addis ababa: Angola and the African Union analyzed on Tuesday, in Addis Ababa, the challenges of peace and security on the continent, with special attention to the Great Lakes and Sahel regions, as well as the impact of conflicts in the Middle East on Africa and the world.
According to Angola Press News Agency, the topic was analyzed during a meeting between Angola's permanent representative to the African Union (AU), Miguel Bembe, and the African Union Commission chair, Mohmoud Ali Youssouf. Among the topics under analysis were preparations for the Extraordinary Session of the Conference of Heads of State and Government of the AU on strengthening conflict prevention and resolution mechanisms in Africa, scheduled for August 2026 in Luanda, and the 4th Edition of the Pan-African Forum for the Culture of Peace and Non-Violence in Africa, 'Luanda Biennial', which will take place in October 2026 under the motto 'Strengthening the Governance of Water in Africa as a Tool for Prevention, Mediation and Conflict Resolution'.
On the occasion, Mohmoud Ali Youssouf highlighted the relationship between the Biennale's motto and the theme defined by the AU for 2026: 'Ensuring the Sustainable Availability of Water and Safe Sanitation Systems to Achieve the Objectives of Agenda 2063'. The Pan-African Forum for the Culture of Peace and Non-Violence in Africa, established by Decision 558/XXIV of the AU Conference in 2015 and confirmed by Decision 895/XXXVII of 2024, will be held annually in October, in Luanda, in collaboration with UNESCO and the Government of Angola.
The meeting also addressed Angola's commitments following its mandate as acting President of the AU, between February 2025 and February 2026, a period in which the Head of State, Joo Louren§o, led the continental organization, with results considered substantial by Ali Youssouf.
