Luanda: Maintaining oil production levels above one million barrels per day by 2026 remains a top priority for the Angolan government, as reaffirmed by the Minister of Mineral Resources, Petroleum and Gas, Diamantino Azevedo. Speaking in Luanda on Monday during the ministry's year-end greetings ceremony, Azevedo underscored the government's commitment to achieving this production target.
According to Angola Press News Agency, the Minister also outlined plans to continue with refining, distribution, and fuel storage projects in the upcoming year. Furthermore, he highlighted ambitions to boost diamond and gold production and initiate the extraction of other minerals as per the Ministry's program, aiming to meet the objectives set in the National Development Plan.
The Minister emphasized the sector's ongoing use of Artificial Intelligence to enhance operations, noting an existing departmental project focused on AI implementation. Addressing queries about the potential public offering of Sonangol and Endiama shares in 2026, Azevedo indicated that the restructuring process for these companies faces hurdles due to internal and external factors.
The ceremony was preceded by the XI Meeting of the Advisory Council of the Ministry of Mineral Resources, Petroleum and Gas (MIREMPET), held under the theme "Structuring projects of the sector: current status and challenges." The meeting primarily focused on analyzing strategic issues within the sector, particularly the progress of key projects in the mining and oil sectors, including those completed in the current five-year span and those underway.
