Kampala: Angola’s Secretary of State for Administration, Finance, and Assets, Osvaldo dos Santos Varela, is actively participating in the 19th Ministerial Meeting of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) in Kampala, Uganda. Speaking on behalf of the Minister of Foreign Affairs, T©te Ant³nio, Varela highlighted the significance of empowering young people and women, stressing the importance of their involvement in decision-making processes and equipping them with skills for a digital future.
According to Angola Press News Agency, Varela proposed establishing an educational exchange and innovation program aimed at sharing knowledge in digital technologies, including artificial intelligence, to boost the employability of young people and women. He reiterated Angola’s adherence to the principles of the NAM and the United Nations Charter, expressing support for the Sahrawi people’s right to self-determination and independence.
Varela also called for renewed multilateral efforts to address ongoing conflicts in regions such as Sudan and the eastern Democratic Republic of Congo, advocating for peaceful solutions based on international law. He underlined the importance of strengthening multilateral cooperation amid global challenges such as geopolitical tensions, economic crises, climate change, hunger, poverty, and human rights issues.
During his address, the diplomat emphasized that the Non-Aligned Movement continues to be a crucial platform for advancing the interests of the Global South. He reaffirmed Angola’s commitment to enhancing multilateral cooperation and achieving the Sustainable Development Goals.
