Luanda: President João Lourenço announced that Angola is actively working on the construction of grain silos and collection points along the Lobito Corridor and other regions identified as potential granaries within the country, with the objective of enhancing food security. Speaking at the commencement of discussions between Angolan and US delegations, the President highlighted that these efforts are being executed in collaboration with Amer-Com.

According to Angola Press News Agency, significant public investment projects are currently underway, supported by financing from American institutions such as EXIMBANK, CITI Capital, and the International Development Finance Corporation (DFC). American companies involved include SUN Africa, Africell, Mayfair Energy, Acrow Bridge, and GATES Air, among others. President Lourenço also acknowledged the longstanding presence of Chevron and Esso in Angola, along with numerous American firms providing services in the oil sector, underscoring the contribution of the Unite
d States to Angola’s food and energy security and broader socio-economic development.

Furthermore, President Lourenço emphasized the collaboration between ANGOSAT-2, NASA, and Maxar to secure high-resolution satellite imagery for monitoring natural disasters, particularly within the framework of the Program to Combat the Effects of Drought in Southern Angola (CESSA). Various initiatives have been implemented to boost local food production and processing, aiming to achieve national self-sufficiency in widely consumed products.

The government has introduced several programs to foster agricultural productivity and diversification, including the Program to Support Production, Diversify Exports and Substitute Imports (PRODESI), the National Plan to Encourage Grain Production (PLANAGRÃO), and the Fund to Support Agrarian Development (FADA). FADA is tasked with providing financial resources to develop peasant food production and agribusiness, while PLANAGRÃO focuses on the cultivation of wheat, rice, soybeans, and
corn, along with the construction and rehabilitation of infrastructure to support the productive and social sectors. This program is primarily targeted at provinces with suitable land and climate conditions for cereal production, especially in the eastern regions of Moxico, Lunda-Norte, and Lunda-Sul.
