Makueni: is set to host the flag-off of the nation-wide epilepsy awareness campaign, Angaza Kifafa, at the Makueni County Referral Hospital in Wote tomorrow. This campaign aims to encourage people with epilepsy to seek treatment, raise awareness, and reduce the stigma associated with the condition.
According to Kenya News Agency, the campaign is part of the November Epilepsy Awareness Month activities. The NECC has scheduled a Community Health Promoters (CHP) training today and a roadshow on November 30, 2023, in Makueni County. The campaign is expected to be flagged off by Governor Mutula Kilonzo Junior.
The CHP training is designed to equip promoters with skills to help spread epilepsy awareness in their communities. The NECC aims to equip healthcare providers and those indirectly affected by epilepsy with the latest care practices and knowledge. Epilepsy, characterized by acute seizures, can lead to involuntary movements, shaking, confusion, and anxiety. The campaign also addresses the stigma and discrimination that often prevent people with epilepsy from seeking treatment and living decently.
