Bobo-Dioulasso: The cashew nut processing company, ANATRANS, based in Bobo-Dioulasso, has successfully reopened its operations for the 2025 campaign, securing at least 1,300 jobs. This development comes after the company received a 500 million FCFA funding boost from the DUMU KAFA fund, following its temporary closure in November 2024 due to a lack of partners.
According to Burkina Information Agency, ANATRANS, which has been fully owned by Burkinabe capital since September 2024, employs 1,300 people, with a significant number being women. This move substantially contributes to the industrialization and socio-economic development of Burkina Faso. The company faced significant challenges in 2024, primarily due to the absence of partners. Consequently, it sought financial assistance from the DUMU KAFA fund.
Nibenwon Adeline Somda, the first manager of ANATRANS, explained that after numerous discussions and technical evaluations, DUMU KAFA agreed to fund the company. In 2025, ANATRANS received 500 million FCFA, which was utilized to procure raw materials, facilitating a smooth start for the 2025 campaign.
With the newfound financial support, ANATRANS plans to tap into the national market by incorporating cashew nuts into local eating habits and Burkinabe cuisine. Despite most of its production being exported, the company aims to increase local consumption of cashew nuts, highlighting their nutritional value and quality as a 100% Burkinabe product.
ANATRANS, established in 2008, is a prominent cashew processor in Burkina Faso and a leading entity in West Africa. Its facility in Bobo-Dioulasso boasts an annual processing capacity of 18,000 tons. The DUMU KAFA fund, created by the Burkinabe government in February 2024, addresses the financing needs of the agro-pastoral and fisheries sectors. The fund offers loans ranging from 100,000 CFA francs to 500 million CFA francs at an annual interest rate of 5%, available to individuals, businesses, cooperatives, and public institutions.
