AMMIE Association Vows to Eradicate Malaria in Yatenga Province

OUAHIGOUYA — The association Moral, Material, and Intellectual Support for Children (AMMIE) reaffirmed its commitment to eradicating malaria in Yatenga Province, where the disease accounts for 30% of all deaths, during a workshop held on August 13, 2024.

According to Burkina Information Agency, supported by partners such as Speak Up Africa and the Permanent Secretariat for the Fight against Malaria, malaria remains a significant health threat in the region. In 2023, the Ouahigouya health district recorded 235,246 malaria cases, including 17,410 severe cases, resulting in eight deaths.

Cécile Beloum, national coordinator of the AMMIE association, stated that the workshop aimed to mobilize resources from both public and private sectors to combat malaria in Yatenga and the broader Northern region. She called on the community to unite in this effort to eliminate the disease.

The workshop included presentations on the general state of malaria in Burkina Faso, the advocacy action plans of the AMMIE association, and the motivations behind the association's long-standing fight against malaria. Lallé/Diallo Aissétou from the Permanent Secretariat for the Fight against Malaria praised AMMIE's dedication, assuring continued support from their organization.

Pierre Claver Bancé, Secretary General of Yatenga Province, expressed the authorities' full backing of AMMIE's initiative, urging all participants to contribute to the goal of eradicating malaria in the region.
