Amhara Region Launches Development Roadmap to Tackle Multifaceted Challenges


BAHIR DAR – Ethiopia’s Amhara Region has unveiled a new Transcendent Growth and Sustainable Development Roadmap and Strategic Plan, set to commence in the upcoming 2017 Ethiopian fiscal year, aimed at addressing a range of pressing challenges and ensuring sustainable growth.



According to Ethiopian News Agency, the roadmap was discussed in the presence of Deputy Prime Minister Temesgen Tiruneh, Chief Administrator Arega Kebede, and other regional and federal authorities. Deputy Prime Minister Temesgen highlighted the roadmap’s significance as a pivotal move to break the cycle of conflict and spur prosperity in Amhara. He noted the plan was meticulously crafted, drawing on a deep understanding of the region’s historical challenges and aspirations for the future.



The roadmap, which outlines a 25-year strategic vision beginning in the 2018 Ethiopian fiscal year, aims to foster economic growth, political stability, and peacebuilding. Arega Kebede, Chief Administrator of Amhara, pointed out that the roadmap includes immediate and long-term strategies to address both current challenges and the root causes of the region’s crises. A special emphasis was placed on the initial one-year plan, serving as a pilot phase for the broader strategy.



The Deputy Prime Minister emphasized the importance of collaboration and widespread support for the roadmap, calling on leaders, the general public, the diaspora, and partner organizations to actively engage in its implementation. He reaffirmed the federal government’s support for the region’s efforts, underscoring the critical role of successful execution in achieving national prosperity.



The forum also served as a platform for stakeholders to express their support and contribute ideas, with a corridor spatial plan introduced to optimize development across various areas, facilitating the roadmap’s implementation.
