St Petersburg: Angola’s ambassador to Russia, Augusto da Silva Cunha, underscored the significant role of the light industry in economic development and national identity at the 3rd Commonwealth of Fashion International Forum in St Petersburg. The event was organized by the Inter-Parliamentary Assembly of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) member countries.
According to Angola Press News Agency, Ambassador Cunha highlighted that light industry is crucial in preserving the national identity of states through its consumer-oriented products and services. He pointed out that unlike heavy industry, light industry requires less capital investment and is focused more on consumer needs than business demands.
Ambassador Cunha further emphasized the industry’s responsibility to promote the internationalization of cultural values and identities, showcasing the icons and symbols that define and sustain communities and their partners. The forum, concluding today, sheds light on the vital role of the fashion in
dustry within the CIS economies amid current geopolitical and socio-economic challenges.
The forum also addresses various aspects such as development prospects, global transformations, and the enhancement of international cooperation. Discussions include the supply of raw materials, workforce training, technological advancements, and the promotion of local brands, with Angola represented by fashion designer Nadir Tati.
