Ambassador Advocates Strengthening Economic Co-operation with Philippines.

Manila: Angola’s ambassador to the Philippines, Daniel António Rosa, advocated for enhanced co-operation between Angola and the Philippines in the economic and business sectors through their respective Chambers of Commerce and Investment. This call was made during the independence celebrations of six countries accredited to the Philippines, including Angola, where the ambassador highlighted both achievements and forthcoming challenges.

According to Angola Press News Agency, the ambassador underscored the importance of peace and overcoming various stages of reconstruction and production, identifying sustainable development as the primary goal yet to be achieved. He noted Angola’s leadership roles from 2017 to the present in significant sub-regional, regional, and intercontinental bodies such as SADC, ICGLR, and CPLP, as well as its current leadership of the ECCAS commission and the OEACP general secretariat.

Daniel Rosa also mentioned Angola’s impending role as the rotating president of the African Union (A
U) next year, noting it as the continent’s most significant political forum. He highlighted Angola’s role as a vital mediator in African conflicts, particularly in the Great Lakes Region, emphasizing its involvement in the conflict between the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) and Rwanda.

The ambassador further highlighted that in April 2023, the President of the Republic will receive the title of African Union Champion for Peace and Reconciliation in Africa, recognizing his dedication to promoting peace across the continent.

The independence celebration event, held in Makati City, celebrated the independence of several countries with November anniversaries, including Angola (11), East Timor (28), Cambodia (09), Panama (03), Oman (18), and Poland (11). Attendees included the governor of Makati, Mar-Len Abigail Binay, local mayor’s office members, other diplomats, and heads of missions from the respective countries.
